Last Wednesday it was time for members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) to hang up their trainers, wet gear and head torches in favour of posh frocks, shirts and ties for the annual club presentation evening and dinner.
The venue for the event was once again the parish hall with great food provided by Chrissy Venning and her team.
The club has had another great year with thousands of miles run collectively. Bats have entered a record amount of events ranging from 5km to 24 hour fund raisers, there have been personal bests galore and lots of new members wearing their club vest for the first time as well as those who have achieved their own goals like running three marathons in three days, or their first twenty miler training run or running 100 miles in one hard, continuous effort.
Aside from the formal awards made, other notable achievements this year made by Nathan Newton, Rachel Wood, Murray Turner, Sarah Burns and Natasha Ayres were recognised during the evening.
A big thank you was also made to the clubs coaches and run leaders, pictured (left to right) Laurence Sargeant, Murray Turner, Martin Head, Simon Griffiths, Paul Mingo, Dotty King and Derek Hicks (not pictured Julian Setterington).
The trophy winners are pictured (left to right): Suzanne Treussard – Improver of the year (coaches vote); Rebecca Mingo – ‘Mingo Miles’ (most amount of miles recorded in 2014); Martin Head – Bats Chair Award; Sally Dunn (club vote) Female Bat of the year & Athlete of the year; Sam Lake (club vote) Female newcomer; Steve Le Flem – Bats Committee Award; Paul Mingo (club vote) Male Bat of the year; Derek Hicks (club vote) Club member of the year and Pam Adams – Bats Committee Award. Club chair, Dotty King would like to thank club members for their continued support through 2014, the Bere Peninsular community for their support and Trinity Church for the use of their hall during the year and the Tavistock Times Gazette for this support.
Dotty also said “although there were a number of individual awards during the evening it must be said that every Bat is a superstar, every step they run is worthwhile and every Bat is a winner”.
